New Faces New Places: Spring cleaning for your subconscious

Cynthia Fey is a hypnotherapist who can help free people from their issues and improve their performance at work, school or the sports field

addictions and stress to help them reach their peak performance, in Saskatoon on May 12, 2018. (Erin Petrow/ Saskatoon StarPhoenix)

Cynthia Fey’s journey into the world of hypnotherapy began after seeing the positive results the process had on her husband — a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Since then, Fey has studied hypnotherapy under a number of mentors including Marisa Peer, who has worked with world renowned actors, musicians and Olympians.

“It’s actually much more than hypnotherapy,” said Fey, formerly an education professor at the University of Saskatchewan.

“It’s a hybrid of all the best that is out there … and it works for two things: to free people from issues like anxiety depression, phobias, addictions and weight and eating problems, but it’s also for strengthening people to reach their peak performance.”

Fey says she can not only free someone from the problems negatively affecting their life, she can also help instil a sense of confidence to make it easier to achieve success.

Her process is like spring cleaning at all levels of consciousness, Fey says.

Each session generally takes between 90 minutes and two hours, though longer specialized sessions are available. Afterwards Fey provides her clients with a personalized audio tape to help continue to solidify the subconscious work from home.

Fey not only works with adults, but is registered within the province to work with children and help with issues such as exam anxiety and concentration. She also offers specialized sessions for children with autism and disabilities.

“You can’t solve a problem at the same level of consciousness that created it,” she says.

“The mind likes what’s familiar … no matter how much you want something consciously the subconscious is going to be working against you, so you have to work at all levels of consciousness. Nowadays people have a team of health professionals working with them, so why not have someone working on the subconscious too?”
